Abstract
This sense was akin to hearing or seeing; it exists forhumans generally, even if a few people do not have it.However, according to Scherr, Jefferson came to believethat moral sense was different throughout the world. Scherr's emphasis on Jefferson's understanding of eventsin Haiti will be necessary material for scholars workingon Jefferson's complex understanding of his preferredemancipation and relocation of the enslaved. First among these is that it mines new materialfrom Jefferson's later period and offers new examplesthat are especially useful for Jefferson scholars. [Extracted from the article]
