Abstract

The text explores the metaphorical and existential entrapment experienced by prominent Caribbean writers—Samuel Selvon, George Lamming, V. S. Naipaul, Roy Heath, Andrew Salkey, Roger Mais, Michael Anthony, Wilson Harris—and the narrator, as they navigate a surreal, timeless green landscape symbolizing displacement and cultural liminality. Through fragmented dialogue, shared memories, and symbolic imagery, the group grapples with themes of identity, belonging, and the search for home amid postcolonial dislocation. The narrative culminates in a collective decision to "stay still," reflecting a paradoxical attempt to find freedom within stasis, while confronting the persistent constraints of history, language, and memory.
