Abstract
The article focuses on the 14th Dalai Lama's reaffirmation that the institution of the Dalai Lama will continue after his death, despite previous statements suggesting he might be the last. He emphasized that only his office, the Gaden Phrodrang Trust, has the authority to identify his successor, rejecting Chinese claims to control the reincarnation process. This stance deepens the ongoing conflict with China, which insists on approving the next Dalai Lama and has previously appointed its own candidate for the Panchen Lama, a key Tibetan Buddhist figure. Tibetan exiled leaders and supporters reject any Beijing-appointed successor, warning that such a move would lack legitimacy and further exacerbate geopolitical tensions.
