Abstract
Marshall Allen, a member of the Sun Ra Arkestra, celebrates his 100th birthday after spending nearly 70 years with the band. Allen's journey into music began in the 1940s during World War II when he played clarinet and alto sax in the 17th Division Army band. He joined the Arkestra in 1958 and became a key member, embracing abstract experimentalism and contributing to the band's reputation as architects of the New Thing. Allen continues to lead the Arkestra, touring and keeping Sun Ra's repertoire alive. [Extracted from the article]
