Abstract

The article focuses on the strategic implications of U.S. President Donald Trump’s 2026 action against Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro regime, framing it as a precedent for international responses to state-sponsored terrorism, transnational crime, and regional destabilization. It argues that this development legitimizes Pakistan’s right under international law to adopt proactive counterterrorism measures against threats emanating from Afghan territory and alleged Indian state-supported militancy. The text highlights Pakistan’s security challenges from Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) operating in Afghanistan, India’s internal policies and regional actions perceived as destabilizing, and the potential formation of a Pakistan-Bangladesh mutual defence pact, which could reshape South Asian security dynamics. Overall, the article situates these issues within evolving international norms that prioritize security and accountability over strict sovereignty, urging Pakistan to adopt a decisive, legally grounded strategy.
