Abstract
The article focuses on recent developments in submarine fiber optic infrastructure, including new cable landing stations, subsea cable deployments, and industry acquisitions. Data center firm Globalinx is developing a cable landing station (CLS) near Ocean City, Maryland, to host Amazon's FastNet subsea cable linking Maryland to Ireland, expected to be operational by 2028. The TAM-1 (Trans Americas Mesh 1) subsea cable system recently landed in Panama, connecting Florida with multiple Central American and Caribbean locations, with AT&T as the anchor tenant in U.S. jurisdictions. EXA Infrastructure completed its acquisition of Aqua Comms, expanding its transatlantic subsea network and enhancing connectivity between North America, Ireland, and mainland Europe. Additionally, Finnish authorities seized the cargo vessel Fitburg after subsea telecommunications cables linking Finland and Estonia were damaged, with an ongoing investigation into the incident.
