Abstract

The article focuses on François Truffaut's 1975 film *The Story of Adèle H.*, based on the diaries of Adèle Hugo, daughter of Victor Hugo, and explores themes of obsessive love and self-negation. The narrative follows Adèle's obsessive pursuit of British Lieutenant Albert Pinson across Nova Scotia and Bermuda, depicting her gradual mental and physical decline. The film is noted for its literary foundation, Isabelle Adjani's central performance, and Nestor Almendros's evocative cinematography, which visually underscores Adèle's emotional state and voyeuristic perspective. The new Blu-ray edition includes insightful extras such as feminist analysis, interviews, and a booklet with Truffaut's reflections on his filmmaking approach and the film's place within his oeuvre.
