Abstract
The article focuses on the recovery, restoration, and release of Frank Zappa's previously lost concert film and audio project titled *Cheaper Than Cheep*. The recordings were made in 1974 at Zappa's rehearsal space on Sunset Boulevard and feature the classic band lineup. The archive of Zappa's extensive recorded material is now housed in a secure, temperature-controlled facility, with over 16,000 tapes preserved and managed by a dedicated team including Joe Travers, the "Vault Meister." The project faced significant technical challenges, including damaged tapes and lost audio-video sync, partly due to earlier production company errors, but modern technology enabled successful restoration. Ahmet Zappa, Frank's son and estate gatekeeper, discusses the meticulous archival process, family involvement in managing the legacy, and how Frank Zappa might have embraced today's digital music technologies.
