Abstract
This program focuses on the viola bastarda, a virtuosic viol playing style from late 16th- to early 17th-century Italy that condenses polyphonic compositions into a single, ornamented solo line. Manon Papasergio’s agile and lyrical viol performances are central, supported by Angélique Mauillon on harp and Yoann Moulin on harpsichord and organ, instruments historically associated with the bastarda style. The repertoire includes multiple interpretations of works by Cipriano de Rore and Orlando di Lasso, illustrating both the technical and expressive possibilities of the viola bastarda. Accompanying liner notes provide a concise history of this improvisatory practice. [Extracted from the article]
