Abstract

This article analyses the ways in which the Swedish Slavic Mission (Slaviska missionen) became involved in human rights activism from the mid-1960s until 1989. It argues that human rights advocacy, primarily focusing on the position of Protestants in the Soviet Union, resulted in a redefinition of the mission’s public appearance. As a harbinger of knowledge, it became a partner in a loosely organised network of human rights NGOs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
