Abstract
Stephanie L. Freeman's article, "Dreams for a Decade: International Nuclear Abolitionism and the End of the Cold War," explores the efforts to abolish nuclear weapons in the 1980s and their impact on the Cold War's conclusion. Freeman examines the perspectives of high-level leaders like Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev, as well as grassroots activists and civil society groups. She argues that nuclear abolitionism was a diverse movement with varying approaches to achieving its goals. While Freeman asserts that nuclear abolitionists played a significant role in ending the Cold War, she acknowledges the complexities of causation and the limitations of nuclear abolitionism in the 1980s.
