Abstract

The article focuses on a systematic review of the Montessori educational approach and its effects on children with intellectual disabilities (IDs) and autism. Conducted by researchers from the Institute for Cancer Research and Treatment (IRCCS) Oasi Research Institute in Troina, Italy, the review analyzed literature from seven databases, identifying three studies that met inclusion criteria. The findings indicated improvements in motor skills, perceptual abilities, cognitive development, and self-care among participants, suggesting that the Montessori method, originally designed for children with cognitive disabilities, could enhance autonomy and inclusion for individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders. The research emphasizes the need for further experimental studies to maximize the method's effectiveness. [Extracted from the article]
