Abstract
The article examines how everyday life is portrayed in two graphic novels—*De l'autre côté, à Montréal* by Émilie Plateau and *Hiver nucléaire* by Cab (Caroline Breault)—both set in Montreal and centered on young female protagonists navigating their altered daily routines. It explores the tension between the mundane and the extraordinary, showing how the protagonists initially feel confined by their routines but gradually reclaim agency through spontaneous encounters in the urban environment, particularly on the streets, which are depicted as crucial sites of social interaction and personal transformation. Drawing on theorists such as Maurice Blanchot, Michel de Certeau, and Henri Lefebvre, the article highlights how these works represent everyday life not as passive repetition but as a dynamic process of becoming, where ordinary actions can involve emotional courage and lead to renewed self-confidence. Ultimately, the graphic novels illustrate how engaging attentively with the city enables the protagonists to develop unique ways of being in the world while remaining part of the urban collective.
