Abstract

Tropical Storm Debby has hit Florida as a hurricane, causing power outages and threatening to bring heavy rain and flooding to the US East Coast. Although the storm has weakened, the main concern now is the rain, with up to 12 inches expected to fall across a wide area from northern Florida to North Carolina. The storm has already caused power outages and grounded flights, and governors in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina have declared emergencies. If widespread flooding occurs, it could result in significant destruction and losses. The slow movement of the storm and its potential re-emergence into the Atlantic could exacerbate the flooding.
