Abstract
The article focuses on the increase in gas transportation through the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum South Caucasus pipeline, which reached 1.9 billion cubic meters (bcm) in January 2026, marking a 15.4% rise compared to January 2025. Overall, 3.9 bcm of gas was transported through main pipelines during this period, with nearly half (47.9%) carried via the South Caucasus pipeline. This pipeline transports gas from the Shah Deniz gas condensate field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye. Commissioned in 2006, the pipeline has been upgraded to convey gas from the second phase of Shah Deniz to Türkiye since 2018 through the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP).
