Abstract

The article focuses on story of an unsung hero in the Civil Rights Movement and Charles Greenlee, was captured shortly thereafter and tortured until he confessed to a crime he did not commit. It mentions Thurgood Marshall, the director-counsel of the Legal Defense and Education Fund, dispatched his young associate, an obscure New York lawyer named Franklin H. Williams, to defend the three surviving defendants.
