Abstract

This article focuses on British reggae artist Hollie Cook’s reflections on key albums that have influenced her musical style and artistic vision. She highlights Marvin Gaye’s *What’s Going On* (1971) for its seamless flow and impactful tracks, Minnie Riperton’s *Perfect Angel* (1974) for its raw yet warm soul production, and Amy Winehouse’s *Back to Black* (2006) as a defining album of her generation. At the center of her inspiration is Carroll Thompson’s *Hopelessly In Love* (1981), which Cook identifies as formative for her identity as a female reggae artist. Additionally, she cites Little Dragon’s *Nabuma Rubberband* (2014) for its innovative and eclectic sound that resonates with her evolving musical tastes.
