Abstract

The article focuses on recent developments in telecommunications infrastructure and digital payment services in the Asia-Pacific region. Thailand’s National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) approved the TalayLink subsea cable landing plan, a Google Cloud-backed project managed locally by International Gateway Company, a subsidiary of ALT Telecom, to establish a new data route connecting Thailand and Australia via the Indian Ocean. In Vietnam, GLN International, a subsidiary of Korea’s Hana Bank, launched a nationwide QR payment service in partnership with local processor NAPAS, integrating with the VietQR Global system to facilitate cross-border payments and QR cash withdrawals. Additionally, Saigon-Hanoi Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SHB) engaged Huawei as a strategic advisor to modernize its digital infrastructure and implement AI-driven customer insights, reflecting Huawei’s growing presence in Vietnam’s evolving 5G and banking sectors.
