Abstract

This article outlines the history of the Duchy of Racibórz in the late Middle Ages, its origins, area, and territorial changes from the end of the 13th century (when it was established as a result of the disintegration of the Duchy of Opole) to the beginning of the 16th century. It was one of the duchies located in Upper Silesia, a kind of link between the Kingdom of Poland and the Kingdom of Bohemia. It also analyses the princes and princesses of Racibórz from the Piast and Přemyslid dynasties through the prism of genealogical connections, political and economic achievements, foundations, and social and biological conditions (including life expectancy).
