Abstract

The article presents a lesson plan titled "A Game of Tyranny," designed to help students investigate the advantages and disadvantages of oligarchic government systems compared to democracy and tyranny. In this interactive lesson, students are assigned roles as oligarchs or ordinary people, allowing them to explore the dynamics of power and decision-making in ancient societies. Through group discussions and voting, students assess the responses of oligarchs to the needs of farmers and ultimately decide whether to support a tyrant, maintain the oligarchy, or establish a democracy. The lesson aims to foster critical thinking about historical governance and its impact on society. [Extracted from the article]
