Abstract
The article focuses on Clyde Lee Choate, an Illinois native and Medal of Honor (MOH) recipient recognized for extraordinary valor during World War II. Choate, serving in the 601st Tank Destroyer Battalion, single-handedly disabled a German Mark IV tank in France in 1944, preventing the enemy from capturing a battalion command post. After the war, Choate pursued a political career as a Democrat in the Illinois House of Representatives, where he played a significant role in advancing infrastructure and education, notably supporting Southern Illinois University. Despite challenges in state politics, including opposition from Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley, Choate served thirty years in the legislature before retiring to work as a lobbyist.
