Abstract
The article focuses on Hertha Ayrton, a pioneering female physicist and inventor, who made significant contributions to science despite facing gender and social prejudices in the early 20th century. While recovering from her husband's chronic depression, Ayrton conducted experiments that challenged established scientific views on sand ripples, leading to the development of a portable fan that helped clear toxic gases from military trenches during World War I. Despite her achievements, including being the first woman to present her findings to the Royal Society, she faced barriers to recognition and membership due to her gender and Jewish heritage. The article highlights the broader debates about the role of women in science and the societal attitudes towards scientific innovation and financial gain. [Extracted from the article]
