Abstract
Ethiopia is facing a major food crisis caused by internal conflict and climate disasters, with the number of critically food insecure people potentially reaching almost 11 million later in 2024. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed denied that people were dying of hunger in the country, although he acknowledged that deaths may have occurred due to illnesses associated with malnutrition. The Ethiopian government and the World Food Programme (WFP) are working to provide food assistance to those in need, but additional funding is urgently required. The government has also allocated funds to create job opportunities for young people in the Tigray region, where unemployment and political instability have led to migration.
