Abstract
This article focuses on the contributions of Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician considered the father of Medicine, to the fields of Orthopaedics and Traumatology as documented in the "Hippocratic Corpus." It details Hippocrates' descriptions and management techniques for fractures, dislocations, osseous infections, and spinal disorders, including his use of reduction, immobilization, and early principles of external fixation. The review highlights Hippocrates’ observations on fracture healing, infection control using antiseptic methods like wine, and biomechanical insights into musculoskeletal injuries, which anticipated concepts confirmed in later centuries. Overall, Hippocrates is presented as a pioneer who shifted medical practice from divine explanations to empirical, practical treatments in musculoskeletal medicine.
