Abstract

The article discusses the film adaptation of the classic Russian novel, The Master and Margarita, directed by Michael Lockshin. The novel, written by Mikhail Bulgakov, explores the condition of artists under dictatorship and was not published during Bulgakov's lifetime due to its controversial themes. Lockshin's adaptation depicts the same themes and was released in 2024, facing backlash and criticism from the Russian government and its propagandists. The film has been well-received by the public, with many viewing it as an act of silent dissent in a time of increasing censorship and repression in Russia. [Extracted from the article]
