Abstract
The article focuses on the management and legal complexities surrounding the literary estate of Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges following the death of his widow and literary executor, Maria Kodama. Kodama, who controlled Borges's copyrights through the Fundación Internacional Jorge Luis Borges and collaborated with the Wylie Agency, died without naming an heir, prompting legal scrutiny over the estate's future under Argentine and international copyright laws, including the Berne Convention and the US Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act. Ultimately, Kodama's relatives were recognized by an Argentine court as heirs, ensuring continued authorized control of Borges's works. The article also recounts a verified anecdote about Borges's personal practice of reciting the Lord's Prayer in Anglo-Saxon, as confirmed by Kodama.
