Abstract

The article focuses on the ongoing human rights violations in Libya, as reported by Human Rights Watch (HRW), which highlights the lack of accountability for armed groups and militias targeting both Libyans and illegal migrants. HRW's 2024 annual report indicates that the two competing authorities in Libya have suppressed non-governmental organizations and allowed inhumane conditions in prisons controlled by armed groups. Additionally, the article mentions the arrest of Hashem Abu Sedra, the leader of the Islamic State (IS) group in Libya, by the counter-terrorism body affiliated with the Government of National Unity. HRW calls for reforms to enhance freedom of association and support for civil society in Libya. [Extracted from the article]
