Abstract
The article focuses on Walt Disney's visit to Purdue University on January 15, 1949, for the world premiere of his film *So Dear to My Heart*, which depicts 4-H club life in Indiana through a blend of live action and animation. Disney was honored with a Distinguished Service Citation and honorary membership in the Purdue Alumni Association, with proceeds from the premiere establishing a Walt Disney Scholarship fund at the university. The event, supported by RKO Radio Pictures and Indiana dignitaries including Senator Homer E. Capehart, attracted about 6,000 attendees and featured performances by the Purdue Varsity Glee Club and appearances by the film's cast. Disney maintained a lasting connection with Purdue, contributing to the scholarship until his death in 1966, and expressed appreciation for the university's reception and values.
