Abstract

The article contrasts the hopeful symbolism of the Statue of Liberty with Franz Kafka's darker vision in Amerika, arguing that contemporary U.S. immigration realities echo this unsettling inversion. Topics include the changing perception of America as a destination for immigrants, the symbolic shift from welcome to fear, and the political and cultural climate surrounding immigration in the era of Donald Trump.
