Abstract
This article provides an in-depth analysis of the central themes of justice and eros in Plato's Republic. It explores the elusive nature of justice and the conflict between individual desires and the common good. The article argues that philosophy is presented as a solution to these problems, but acknowledges the contested relationship between philosophy and eros. It also discusses the role of eros in the decay of societies and the establishment of tyranny. Overall, the article aims to deepen our understanding of the tension between justice and eros in Plato's work. [Extracted from the article]
