Abstract
The article focuses on an alphabetic meditation on the murder of Emmett Till (1941–1955), a Black boy whose brutal killing in Mississippi became a pivotal moment in the Civil Rights Movement. Each letter corresponds to a concept or image related to Till’s death, trial, and legacy, highlighting themes such as racial violence, injustice, and societal attitudes toward Black youth. The text references the open-casket funeral chosen by Till’s mother to expose the brutality of his murder and critiques the white supremacist structures that enabled his killers’ acquittal. It also connects Till’s story to broader historical and cultural struggles against racism and white supremacy.
