Abstract

The article details the development and implementation of a local civil rights history unit at Geneva City High School in Alabama. It discusses the establishment of The People's History of Geneva K-12 Curriculum Project and the teacher workshop that resulted to the creation of the history unit. It explores the design of the unit and how local history supported its learning goals. It also evaluates student learning outcomes such as historical inquiry and understanding of civil rights movement.
