Abstract
A $1 billion US-based startup is partnering with a conservation nonprofit in Mauritius to bring back the dodo bird from extinction. The Mauritian Wildlife Foundation (MWF), which has successfully saved the kestrel from extinction, will work with Colossal Biosciences Inc. to ensure a sustainable habitat for the dodo once it is reintroduced. The partnership will also focus on restoring critical ecosystems through invasive species removal, revegetation, and community awareness efforts. The dodo bird became extinct in the 17th century due to deforestation, hunting, and destruction of their nests. [Extracted from the article]
