Abstract

The article discusses the December issue of the South African Journal of Cultural History, which features a variety of scholarly articles that explore the intersections of history, culture, and identity. Notable contributions include Prof. Anton van Vollenhoven's development of a heritage-based research paradigm, Prof. Kobus du Pisani's examination of the Joubert family's impact on the wine industry, and Prof. Elri Liebenberg's analysis of a newly rediscovered map from the Trüter–Somerville expedition. Other articles address topics such as the influence of social Darwinism on Afrikaner identity, the cultural nationalism surrounding the 1938 Voortrekker centenary, and the significance of international artifacts in South African museums. The issue aims to inspire further research and dialogue within the field. [Extracted from the article]
