Abstract

This article focuses on crime writer Lee Goldberg’s approach to reinventing mystery genre conventions in his new Edison Bixby thriller series. Goldberg, known for his extensive work in both novels and television, crafts Bixby as a brilliant, vain former LAPD detective who, after being fired due to a neurological condition, is hired by a global insurance firm to investigate suspicious claims. The series employs a narrative perspective inspired by Goldberg’s previous work, using an everyman narrator to highlight the detective’s character. Goldberg emphasizes entertainment and humor in his writing, distinguishing his work from darker, more traditional crime fiction, and draws on decades of experience in both publishing and screenwriting.
