Abstract

The article discussed the smelting-related environmental pollution and superfund cleanup in East Helena, Montana and Globeville, Colorado in 1899-1998. Topics discussed include the history of the operations of American Smelting and Refining Co. (ASARCO) in East Helena and Globeville, the environmental and health impacts of the ASARCO smelters on local communities, and the cleanup of hazardous waste sites including soil remediation.
