Abstract

This article provides information on historical Viking sites that can be visited. The first site mentioned is L'Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, which is the only confirmed Viking settlement in the Americas. Visitors can explore the site's Viking-style turf structures, workshops, dwellings, and forge, as well as view artifacts in the Visitor Centre exhibitions and participate in living history experiences. The second site is Jelling Mounds, Runic Stones, and Church in Jelling, Denmark, which represents a significant moment in Viking and Danish history. Visitors can see the pagan dedication stone, the larger stone erected by Harald Bluetooth, and the stone church, as well as walk around the burial mounds. The third site is Njardarheimr in Gudvangen, Norway, a reconstructed Viking village that offers guided tours, Viking activities, and a glimpse into daily Viking life. The fourth site is Trelleborg Viking-Age Ring Fortress in Trelleborg, Denmark, which is the most preserved ring fortress in a network of Viking fortresses. Visitors can explore the underground structures, view artifacts in the museum, and engage with living historians. The final site is Þingvellir National Park in Iceland, which holds the remains of the Icelandic Alþing, the Open-Air Parliamentary Assembly that represented the birth of Iceland. Visitors can hike, camp, or visit the visitor centre to learn about the park's history and Viking culture. [Extracted from the article]
