Abstract
This collection of essays, titled "1820: Scottish Rebellion: Essays on a Nineteenth-Century Insurrection," commemorates the bicentenary of the Scottish radical rising of April 1820. The essays explore the historical context, consequences, and distinctively Scottish elements of the rising. The book also examines the response of the authorities, the role of the courts, and the views of radical poet Alexander Rodger. The essays highlight the importance of civil society, the press, and local communities in understanding the trajectories of radicalism and reform during this period. However, the book's high price may limit access to it. [Extracted from the article]
