Abstract

The article examines the potential of generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology to translate the old Cobol code, a de facto language fro data processing, into more modern programming languages. It provides an overview of how financial institutions, companies and the government can the watsonx Code Assistant software from IBM Research and the generative AI-powered assistant GitHub Copilot to translate Cobol code to Java.
