Abstract

The article discusses Clare TD Cathal Crowe's recent call for a task force to search for the alleged crown of Irish king Brian Boru, rumored to be in the Vatican, though historians doubt its existence due to lack of evidence of crown-wearing in early Irish kingship. Topics include historical skepticism, the symbolic use of crowns in Irish literature; and Donnchad mac Briain's pilgrimage to Rome.
