Abstract

Australia's central bank has announced that the new A$5 note will feature a theme based on First Nations peoples' connection to the land, chosen after over 2,100 public nominations. The design will replace Queen Elizabeth II's portrait, with the reverse side still showing the Australian Parliament. This decision reflects Australia's efforts to include indigenous culture in national symbols, following the 2022 death of Queen Elizabeth II and the Mabo decision in 1992 recognizing native title and traditional rights of indigenous Australians. The redesigned A$5 note is expected to be unveiled in the near future, celebrating and respecting First Nations peoples' connection to Country. [Extracted from the article]
