Abstract
This article focuses on recent research from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, addressing the training of clinicians in assessing decision-making capacity (DMC), which can affect a person’s autonomy. The study involved 21 participants who completed the Goodfellow Unit of Capacity e-learning modules and attended an online workshop on the Toolkit for Assessing Capacity, with follow-up interviews indicating the training was relevant but highlighted a need for more standardized guidance. The research calls for more formalized and structured training programs to improve consistency in DMC assessments. This peer-reviewed study is published in Psychiatry Psychology and Law.
