Abstract
This article examines W. E. B. Du Bois's extensive but often overlooked contributions to the sociology of morality, emphasizing his focus on the moral lives of Black Americans and the role of moral judgment as a mechanism of racialized oppression. Du Bois's empirical studies, such as those in *The Negro Church* and *Morals and Manners Among Negro Americans*, investigated everyday moral practices—including manners, honesty, and care—and challenged prevailing racist assumptions by situating moral development within the historical context of slavery and systemic discrimination. The article highlights how Du Bois's concept of double-consciousness reveals the moral tensions experienced by racialized individuals who navigate conflicting moral orders imposed by dominant white society and their own communities. By centering race and racialized moral power, Du Bois's work offers a critical expansion beyond traditional Durkheimian and Weberian paradigms, providing valuable insights for contemporary sociologies of morality that seek to address the intersections of race, power, and moral subjectivity.
