Abstract

Wang Chuanfu, the billionaire founder of BYD Co., has turned his company into the world's largest electric vehicle (EV) maker through his focus on innovation and low-cost production. With over 30,000 patents and breakthroughs such as the low-cost lithium-iron-phosphate battery, BYD has sold 3 million electric and hybrid vehicles in 2023 and is set to surpass Tesla Inc. this year. Wang's success has led to comparisons with Elon Musk, but unlike Musk, he has remained focused on EV technology and vertical integration, keeping prices low and democratizing mobility.
