Abstract

This article details the actions of 17-year-old Margaret Florez, a Mexican American textile worker, and her attempts to give herself and other young workers more rights in the 1930s in Texas. Topics include the focus on girlhood as a mobilizing strategy, the role the Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) , and the 1938 strike at the Lone Star Bag & Bagging Company.
