Abstract

The article discusses how the Mfengu collaborated with the British to strip the Xhosa of their land and independence during the Cape's infamous Eastern Frontier Wars. Topics include origin of the name Mfengu, how the Xhosa perceived the Mfengu, and background on the infamous Cattle Killing Movement from 1856 to 1857.
