Abstract
The Sexto Panteón is a sunken necropolis located in Buenos Aires' Chacarita cemetery. Designed by architect Ítala Fulvia Villa, it was constructed between 1949 and 1966 and is a monumental example of brutalist architecture. The necropolis was intended to house 150,000 graves and was the first and largest experiment in modern architecture in the funerary field. Despite its significance, the architect and the Sexto Panteón have been largely overlooked, with Villa's work often attributed to her male colleague, Clorindo Testa. The cemetery itself is historically intended for the middle classes and is known for its architectural eclecticism. The Sexto Panteón is a unique and ambitious project, with its design influenced by Le Corbusier and other modernist principles.
