Abstract

This article focuses on the potential of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a mindfulness- and values-based behavioral treatment, as a novel approach for Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). AUD is a significant global health issue with limited effectiveness of current pharmacological and psychosocial treatments, highlighting the need for improved interventions. While ACT has demonstrated efficacy in various substance use disorders and mental health conditions, no controlled trials have yet evaluated its effectiveness specifically for AUD. The article emphasizes the necessity of rigorous randomized controlled trials involving diverse populations to establish ACT's clinical utility and to develop standardized implementation guidelines for treating AUD.
