Abstract

Kilitch Healthcare India Ltd. has recalled 27 types of eyedrops sold in US stores due to safety concerns, according to US regulators. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a warning to consumers last month, advising against purchasing or using store-brand eyedrops from retailers such as Walmart, CVS, and Target, without disclosing Kilitch as the manufacturer. Bloomberg reported that Kilitch produced the eyedrops in an unsanitary factory in India, where workers were observed violating health regulations and fabricating test results. The FDA visited the Kilitch facility in mid-October and discovered multiple health violations, including bacterial contamination in the filling areas. Although the FDA lacks the authority to mandate recalls, it prohibited the Kilitch factory from exporting more eyedrops to the US. [Extracted from the article]
