Abstract

The article focuses on Joseph Nicéphore Niépce's creation of the world's first surviving photograph and its historical significance. Topics include Niépce's pioneering heliography process, his partnership and posthumous overshadowing by Louis Daguerre, and the modern rediscovery and commemoration of his "View from the Window at Le Gras."
